A NICE horn that was made by Reynolds and Olds!Completely refurbished with a NEW Satin blast with clear lacquer finish!!!
This is a great trumpet and a top-quality instrument by Reynolds in Abilene Texas and F E Olds and Son in Fullerton California. Foster Reynolds was long known for his fantastic designs and great playing instruments and he sold his company and went to Olds after WWII. The Reynolds company was bought and sold several times and then became part of Norlin Music in the mid 1960's with F E Olds. With the brands united the Medalist and Ambassador lines became close brothers. Olds made all the parts and then shipped them to Abilene Texas for the Reynolds line to put them together. The serial number is 245961, which should date the horn to 1968. When I got this the lacquer was well worn and there were several dents in the bell and backbow and slides. The bell flair was crushed and I thought seriously about changing out the original bell. But the trumpet still had great tone and intonation and I thought I had to save it as original. There are several hours of dent and smoothing work in the horn but it still shows a few small battle scars. The logo on the horn says:

I played this horn for a short time before I decided to strip the old lacquer and make it look beautiful again. The horn was sonic cleaned and then the old lacquer was stripped. I decided to do it in satin and shot it with glass beads. The horn now has a beautiful new Satin Blast finish with a clear lacquer protection coat. There are still a few ripples from the removal of dents and a few small pings that I thought didn't need to be removed. It really turned into a beauty that will play! I have played it and it has a wonderful clear tone, and a nice bright sound (Melanie said I sound great on this horn, lol, as always). It plays free and easy in all registers. It plays full and in tune from the bottom of the staff to the top. In my opinion it plays as well as any modern student trumpet and better than some intermediate models! It's in excellent mechanical condition - all the tuning slides work smoothly, including the first and third which are usually frozen and require some kind of repair. The valves work freely and spring back into place with ease and have new felts and springs in them and new felts on the caps. There are also new finger buttons and a third slide push rod. The valves have very light wear and they work very smooth! The horn plays very full all the way into peddle tones. There are NO large dents in any of the tubing and as we said earlier, just a few ripples from removal and a few pings from over the years. I put lots of work in this horn because I really LOVE the Reynolds/Olds sound and it can really play! The horn has new spit valve corks and springs. The third valve slide has new “O” rings to quiet it when using the ring and a new stop rod. Up close the horn rates a 8.5 on a 10 scale but from 5' away it looks New! There are a few small cosmetic issues but the horn plays at a 10 level! The trumpet comes with a good mouthpiece. I am also including a NEW Jinchuan gig bag as seen. The bag holds the horn very well. The outside is brown leather and black ripstop with a nice sized side pocket to hold your mouthpiece and accessories. The inside is black soft covered foam. It also has a shoulder strap to carry it. This is your chance - why spend upwards of 00 for a trumpet (Yamaha has the YCR 23XX student model now that goes for 00+) when you can pick this up for a lot less than that? Take a look...it’s a great horn for a student, advancing player, comeback player, or maybe someone who wants to collect Reynolds/Olds items! This horn was built to play and last. Winning Bidder pays shipping of .00 in the lower 48 states. Other shipping is per the chart.
Don’t miss your chance to get one of the great old Medialist trumpets that is in NICE shape and was built to PLAY and to last!!!
