TOM MIX CIRCUS ONE SHEET POSTER 1930s ORIGINAL INSIDE THE BIG TOP RARE BEAUTIFUL. 27.25x41.25" one-sheet poster featuring inset portrait of Tom Mix at top left w/his facsimile signature below his image. Poster and the colors are beautiful, it features an impressive and crowded Big Top scene, showing Mix on his horse Tony, leading a group of Canadian Mounties on horseback amongst a plethora of circus acts and animals that include clowns, equestrians performing tricks on horses, acrobats and trapeze artists, performing bears, elephants as well a performing zebra and dog. Show is touted as "Part Of The Two Hundred Acts Of Many Nationalities And All Descriptions." c. 1930's. It also mentions "Tom Mix Himself & Tony Will Positively Appear at Each Performance". Poster has some wear along bottom margin from date sheet removal. Pin holes at corners w/some small pieces of tape. Lower left corner has some creasing. Poster was originally folded but remains bright and clean and fold lines blend for the most part. No tears at the folds, The back has tape re-enforced in center from a long time ago but no tears that I can see. 2-5/8" margin repair at top center blends somewhat. Margins show some aging/wear but poster would frame for an Exc. display. Stunning circus poster. Note: On back in pencil it says "Myers Private Collection". Posters have always played a crucial role in advertising for circuses: weeks before the "circus would come to town", poster hangers would arrive and plaster images of the latest acts, trapeze performers and wild animals who would be performing. Barnum and Bailey was perhaps the best known American circus company, but there were many others - like the Tom Mix Circus - who also had illustrious careers and long touring histories. The headliner of this circus - Tom Mix - was a household name at the beginning of the last century. A much-married, high-living, honest-to-goodness cowboy, Tom Mix made more than 160 cowboy films throughout the 1920s. These featured action oriented scripts with sharply defined heros and bad guys who were sharply defined and a clean-cut cowboy always "saved the day." Millions of American children grew up watching his films on Saturday afternoons. His intelligent and handsome horse Tony also became a celebrity. Mix did his own stunts and was frequently injured. He also had a history of performing in a variety of circuses including the Sells-Floto circus and the Sam Dill Circus (which he was reported to have purchased in 1935). This poster is considered to be highly collectible and rare. I have six other Tom Mix original posters that I will be listing. Combined shipping available. Poster will be rolled and shipped in a tube. Please ask any question that you may have. Thank you, DavePowered by
