ARCTIC FISHERMAN
James Houston design 1970
Consider this Steuben treasure, a signed, new in correct original fitted red leather box
Arctic Fisherman
of legendary fame. A heavy fire polished cut and angled crystal ice floe magnifies and refracts the light into a rainbow pattern. Upon the ice kneels the fisherman with spear poised (all of solid cast sterling silver.) Below the ice two unwary arctic char (painstakingly copper wheel engraved by hand) swim in the crystal clear water. An early creation of the famed Steuben designer, writer and outdoorsman, the late James Houston*, a rare find
for your favorite adventurer.
At approx. 7 inches tall by 6 inches wide and approx. 5lbs, this
Steuben
classic is crystal clear with
no chips, no scratches or signs
of use to the glass, no damage to the fisherman and no display wear on the bottom
. The crystal block is fully signed "steuben" in script. (Notice the correct placement of the fisherman with the spear in the seam in the ice, several have sold recently on eBay with the fisherman incorrectly mounted on the ice floe.)

Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. Recognized as the world's foremost artisan glass house, Steuben glass was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY. Steuben glass was frequently the United States’ gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no “seconds”. Items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben, a recognized luxury brand and the ultimate in art glass.
