    Description

Sometimes in life you run across something just plain weirdly wonderful and unusually rare. This is a salvage piece of a larger hand painted circus backdrop, painted on old sheet of thick tar paper. The pieces I have when puzzled together look as though it was a repeating pattern that they painted using a rough screen template to quickly cover the vast sheet with circus images.
The paint is still vibrant & quite thick , there is expected cracking, chipping, paint loss, and some damage to the pieces as they were cut away from the surface. I am guessing they are painted on a very thick old tar paper. I've taken pictures of the backs to show the material.
They have been tucked away inside an old estate for an untold number of years, undisturbed..waiting to be found. They are incredible pieces of Circus related folk art. Please see my other listings featuring more images from the panel.
This is a piece depicting the side show tent, I have 3 available & as you can see from the photos they are slightly different cuts of the same image, one has the complete red star ball, one is slightly cut in to & the other does not have the ball stand at all. Please let me know if you have a preference - if not I'll send a randomly selected on & keep the listing updated.
Roughly the same size, each has some damage all 3 are shown in photos -They are not cut square but quickly cut away so they could remove them, most likely someone salvaged them from a rubbish pile 75/85 yrs ago. If you would prefer one over another please let me know, if not I will simply send one randomly. This is from the bottom edge of the painting.
    Very approx. sized at : 16" x 8"
There are no identifying logos which would help to narrow down the Circus, but in appearance looks more like a backdrop for a midway game or entrance passage way walls. I could easily see these, framed in a folk art collection. They really are very appealing & rare.
They will ship flat between two pieces of cardboard. USPS.
